We needed a dream thread, some of them are hilarious, some are scary, and some are just plain bizarre.
Impetus for the thread provided by: Last Night, a mixture of two dreams steadily increasing in bizarreness.
D1: Mysteriously, I and a group of ~15 people are trapped living in an aqueduct, water is rising steadily until our chief engineer (who turns out to be Tyrell from BSG, the chief mechanic or what have you) figures out how to lower the water level using a fancy control board. All is well. Till the zombies come (this theme follows into the next, far more vivid, far less funny dream). To escape these shambling horrors we take off in a Gundam, which I assume we had laying around and didn't use to escape said aqueduct because we're so damn cool.
The rest of the dream is spent quarrelling over who gets to pilot the thing, and subsequently fire gigantic lasers at hordes of zombies. Also somehow a government agency is involved in this apocalyptic dream. I assume they're evil.
D2: After waking up to my alarm clock, I decided "screw you", and set it for 2 hours later. When I next slipped into dreamland, there were still zombies, not quite so many of them though, which is scarier, personally. However I was with a group of my friends (the Gang, as we call ourselves irl), in my car, being chased by thugs (who weren't zombies, I assume it was that asian dude from The Hangover, same car). Well for some reason all of a sudden my friends are gone save NMG. Aaaand we're pulling into the parking lot of the place I work, she gets out while I go inside to inquire as to why zombies are everywhere and why asian street gangs are prowling the streets. Perhaps it was because I drive a honda, who knows. Anywho, I emerge to see her being persued by a mass of zombies. I wake here for a moment and my heart is quite literally pounding, only to fall quickly back into the same dream. I get in my car and drive around towards where she was, only to see her no where. I drive down the road a bit and see a police officer, after crashing my car in an attempt to park it (not to mention nearly rolling it and pushing myself back to the right way up with my own two hands), I ask officer friendly if he's seen a girl being chased by a zombie horde. He says to check the smoking pile of rubble yards from me.
Damn
I walk over, get REALLY angry to the point where I wake in a fit again and fall back in. Now however she's just standing there (a bit bruised and battered, so my dreams have realistic battle damage), this does quite a bit for my mood, and likely my sleep ( I woke up with a headache today!). We drive around for a bit hitting the undead with my white chariot called "Honda", all is well. As a bonus, the last thing I remember before the alarm clock blared once more is us walking into a hotel. Which is still running for some reason after the zombie apocalypse, but it's a dream, get off my sack it's gonna have plot holes. In either case I'm going into a hotel with her, good show, zombies, good show.
Now to be off.

I recently had a dream in which I was aware I was dreaming, then woke up from that dream and was talking about it.
Then I woke up for reals and realized I was aware I was dreaming in a dream, but not dreaming as a whole.

I just had a dream that I got drafted, and my drill sergeant poisoned us, so I flipped out and tried to fight him, and we tore the room we were in apart. Then he turned into Dr. Frankenfurter from Rocky Horror, only he had fangs to, and then I woke up to discover that I missed my chem class....

The worst night of dreams I ever had was one in which every time I went back to sleep, I would die in some way. I kept waking up all freaked out, being afraid to go back to sleep, but being so tired I had to, and going through it again. I swear I died at least ten times that night. Agh so horrible.

I know a guy who dies in his dreams so often, he's jaded to the experience. He just watches death come to him dispassionately.

Does anyone else "recycle" people/places from nightmares. I'm not just talking about recurring dreams, but like, having a certain place/person/thing always pop up in nightmares. I have one "monster" that has been in my nightmares for my whole life. The thing is, I don't have the same dream with him, it's like TV episodes or video game levels. Am I the only person who has dreams turn into sequels/series....?

There's this one chick that always appears in my dreams and I'm always either married to her or dating her. It's pretty funny, actually.

I try, but I never can. I can rarely control my own actions, usually my dreams are more like vague ideas of things happening, and I'm almost always watching myself do something, or I'm on autopilot. It's not that someone else has control of my actions, it's just I'm so detached from myself that I just kinda watch what happens.

Nope, you aren't alone

I never held much credence in all that Freudian, Jungian psychoanalysis and dream interpretation crap anyways, it's become the poster child of psychology for so many when the actual field has moved far away from those ideas of old.
I mean, cursory study into Freud's years will tell you he's a crackpot crack addict.

I've read about the collective unconscious, and think it's crap, though interesting. I just don't remember much else about Jung, though I suppose if you mentioned something I'd remember. (Yay recognition over recall)
Also, ZZ, while lucid dreaming, when you have PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWA!, the best you can think of is to re-create the Care Bear universe? Admittedly, if you had that power irl, I'd support your choice to use it that way, but when dreaming.... No flying... nothing?

Dream 1: I dreamed that Kurt Cobain was targeted for assassination by DC comic book villians.
Dream 2: A lucid dream where I just went around flying into people for no other reason but to see the look on their face and to hear them say "WHAT THE SMURF WAS THAT?!?!?"
Dream 3: I was part of the resistance to take back planet earth from the evil dictator.
Dream 4: (Very sad actually) I dreamed that I was trying to chop my way through a jungle with a machete. I finally got out only to find a flat piece of dirt land. I turned around to go back to wherever I had come from only to see everyone in the world come after me to kill me. I was the only one with a weapon so I start killing them. It started out with me killing those I loved first and then to those I didn't really like. After it was done, I find my best friend and spend the rest of the dream crying until she demateriallized into moths and flew away.

i dreamed that my girlfriend (who is in europe and can't email/communicate to me for the next week and a half) emailed me and posted on my facebook. i woke up kind of bitterly disappointed, because i know that it was incredibly improbable that this actually happened, because she's not allowed to access a computer. so i didn't bother checking my email. later, i sign on to view some college information, and there's an email from her sitting in my inbox.
i concluded that i must be a prophet or a seer.
i also had a vivid dream about a new ramen shop opening in my neighborhood area. it was like a lounge, and they had couches and things like that, but they served all sorts of ramen and assorted asian pastries and stuff. i was actually biting into a bun that was filled with shredded pork and this delicious barbeque-ish sauce in my dream, it was so, so good.

Last night, someone called for my mom while she was out. I wrote it down, but forgot to tell her when she came in. Then I dreamed last night a replay of that night, only with an alternate ending where I told her that she had a call and she thanked me.
This morning she yelled at me for not telling her that her friend called. Only when I woke up this morning, I thought that I had told her, because I dreamed that I had.
I realized there was a problem with this when I could play out the scene in my mind with two different endings.

In my dreams, I can never stay on the ground anymore. Like, my dreams will be different, but for some reason, gravity just doesn't seem to have as much of a hold on me as other people. I just kind of float around, like I'm walking on the moon. It's odd, and a little annoying when I'm trying to go somewhere in a hurry.
For example:
Last night, I dreamed that I was staying in a house with my two brothers (I'm an only child irl, so this was odd) and some older guy (I think he was supposed to be my cousin or something) while our parents were... gone. I don't know where they were, but they just kind of left me to watch those kids. So, anyway, a guy invaded our house and was trying to kill us, so everyone hid. The little boys hid in the attic, in a safe room under the floor (which doesn't really make sense, but whatev), and the older guy jumped through a window on the second story and ran away. I was in my room on the first floor, trying to figure out a place to go. The intruded-guy was coming down the stairs, so I jumped (or, glided rather) out of my window and ran down the street.
I hate running from people in dreams, because you can never run fast enough. It was like that last night, too. The street was wet and slippery with soggy leaves, and I was barefoot, so I had to be careful. On top of that, I kept bouncing into the air and floating around, and I couldn't come down. The intruder guy saw that I was out of the house and he started screaming and running after me, so I broke into someone else's house and was asking the hippy-lady inside for help.
She was all like, "Sure, do you want some iced tea?" I kept trying to convince her to help me, but she just wanted to sit on her porch. So, I floated away and left everything behind.
I'll post more of my trippy dreams later. But, I must also add that I have lucid dreams quite a bit. When I was a young child, I would use it to change my nightmares into more pleasant dreams or wake myself up (which is harder, but still manageable). Now, I usually dream myself into a happier version of my everyday life.

Last night I dreamt that it was the day before a nuclear war started, everyone knew, and had time to prepare or not, depending on what they wanted. The dream was basically me calling all my friends and finding out I was the only one heading to one of the mass shelters. The rest had simply accepted their fate. I traveled to Chicago, where the shelter was was, and set up shop where I would likely be living for some time. At the end of the day I walked to the entrance to find all my friends standing there, seemingly happy. I begged for them to come in, but they wouldn't budge, and the door closed shut on them. A bit afterwards I heard gargantuan booms, the room was shaking, the lights flickering, but I lived. No one else did though, no one that I knew at least. I was literally doomed in this dream to living out the rest of my life with people who felt as horrible as I, with survivor's guilt.

I can never remember the vast majority of my dreams. As in, I don't completely lose most dreams, and completely remember a few; but instead, I almost completely lose all of my dreams.
It's kind of perplexing.
Person: "What did you dream last night?"
Me: "Ummm, I'm not sure, but it involved college."
Person: "Oh, you just don't want to share?"
Me: "No, I just can't remember anything else."
Person: "Well, was it a good dream?"

As requested by Chloe:
It all starts in the caves the Goonies are romping around in, we're exploring and for some reason there's tons of skeletons around, walking. We is "The Gang", basically we're all just mutual best friends, it's p sweet (Previously The Gang of Four, but we let in a fifth so now...). We find the exit or something, and are let out onto Block Island, which I know about only from Chloe, how do I know it's Block Island? There are a bunch of Christopher Walkens standing there, welcoming us to Block Island.
There we find what is basically a battleground, lots of walking skeletons (they're apparently a lot more aggressive on Block Island). I pull out my little pewter keychain/sword from Japan and it turns into a huge sword. We decide we all need swords. A trip is made to a little touristy shop where we purchase various keychain swords which promptly turn into bigger swords.
Then we clear the island of skeletons, I wake up at this point.
I assume we're lauded as heroes.
