Also super cool that there's a Brooke Young and an Abigail Warren competing here, feels like HP is here (though thankfully they aren't!).

My 6th period Algebra I class has a student named Miguel Pacheco who sits right in front of a student named David Alvarado. How is that for coincidence?

We had the first round of the CDO Mini-Scrimmages tonight. There were a total of nine teams competing: Benson, Buena, Canyon del Oro, Desert View, Flowing Wells, Marana, Marana Mountain View, Sunnyside, and Walden Grove. We took three tests: Art, Economics, and Social Science, from an unreleased DemiDec Bronze set.

Here are the results:

Honor:
2720 Piper, Canyon del Oro
2160 Chloe, Canyon del Oro
2140 Kailee, Canyon del Oro
1960 Shania, Marana Mountain View
1900 Luke, Marana

Scholastic:
1640 Isabell, Canyon del Oro (Piper's sister, a freshman!)
1620 Carter, Canyon del Oro (another freshman!)
1560 Allienna, Canyon del Oro
1500 Trevor, Desert View
1500 Paolo, Marana Mountain View
1480 Jessie, Sunnyside

Varsity:
1680 Zach, Canyon del Oro
1220 Durae, Canyon del Oro
1180 Samantha, Desert View
1160 Michael, Canyon del Oro
1140 Nickole, Canyon del Oro (another freshman!)
1140 Elena, Marana Mountain View
1140 Angelica, Sunnyside

It's early in the year, but I am especially thrilled with the performance of my freshmen. smile.gif

Hello coaches and decathletes,

Canyon del Oro High School will be hosting a ten event scrimmage using the Round 1, v2, USAD exams on December 8 and 9, 2017. Teams from all over the world are welcome to attend. If you're interested in the logistics and cost, please send an email to cyetman at amphi dot com.

Last year we had teams from Texas and California. This year I'd like to see even more states represented.

I hope to hear from many of you soon!

"At the conclusion of the recent Academic Decathlon National Competition in Madison, WI, it came to our attention that certain notable achievements by international students and teams were not acknowledged. This was unfortunate and steps have been taken to address this oversight. USAD will review appropriate means to recognize such achievements at the 2018 National Competition in Frisco, TX and will post same on this website when a new policy on this subject is approved."

We played as many of the music selections as we could find on youtube, today in class. There was a lot of dancing and singing. I think it's going to be a good year.

We don't use binders. We use a single binder ring in the top hole for each resource.

At 26,306.5 and 19,593.7 respectively, it seems as if the British Columbian schools weren't quite as good as their initial scores indicated. smile.gif

Are any of the teams going to Nationals interested in ice skating after the Super Quiz Relay? PM me if you're interested.

I'm starting a thread about nationals.

USAD released the size divisions today. They can be found here.

Exactly. I suspect that there had it been included, University would have come out as that top small school. Possibly a list was already generated showing that. Then the appeal was made, and the relay was thrown out, and the powers that be forgot to re-check the small school scores without the relay until after the award had been announced.

Perhaps it had something to do with the Super Quiz scores. It seems possible that University might have had a higher total with the relay, and then without the relay dropped behind St. Helena.

Just a guess.

And Piper Gray, the hardest-working decathlete I have ever coached, sets a CDO record of 8970.8, beating Juhyung Sun's old mark of 8964 set in 2007.
