I have no idea how things are going to go. To many possibilities. Robotics may or may not happen. If it doesn't then about 4 will migrate to us. A couple want to do decathlon and science Olympiad, but she doesn't play well with others so I don't know they will do. Two more are on the water polo team which will make them miss most of the fall. Between the science Olympiad and water polo possibilities are the entirety of our scholastic interested students. We have one returning varsity. Honors are oozing out of every pore on campus. Who knows. I gave them all the music packet, and the returners got art, music, and science to read over the summer. Fingers crossed.

Thanks Demidec for giving me 2018-2019 math tests that I already paid for in 2015-2016. Seems they should write new ones since they are charging a fee for curriculum and tests for next year.

So with another crash, and a lack of discussion here, I have wondered if their is a better way for us to create an online community for decathlon than a message board. I do not know what it is, but i think there are several possibilities- a facebook group, subreddit, slack or irc chat, etc. I don't think a message board is mobile-friendly, which is what most people use for their info gathering. Just an idea, because this seems to not be able to keep a community together anymore.

I like it, but then again I don't have any social media. It seems it has been more coach oriented the last couple of years. When I first started on the board there were decathletes all over the boards, but not so much until after they are done competing.

I didn't know where to post this so: Apparently the schools in my area have decided to have a new competition: Hmong Academic Decathlon. Does USAD have a copyright on that term? If so they should send a cease and desist order. How rude to base the name of your new competition after one that has been established for so long. Somebody connected should reach out to USAD and check into this underhanded theft taking place in Fresno County.

Why are they calling it Hmong Academic Decathlon? That seems like such a random name. Does 'hmong' stand for something?

With any luck the Hmong would get a mention in the social science packet as a group of people the US recruited to help fight the communists in Vietnam, and then they were allowed to come here as refugees when we didn't get the job done.

Got another post this weekend- it rapidly went off the rails before becoming focused back on what I wanted it to be about. Lots of stuff covered, hope y'all enjoy:

91.8

I commend you on the post mortem. You weren't afraid to look in the mirror. We, too, just missed a goal at the state competition (not one as lofty as yours), but one we thought we could hit. We wanted to be top 10, and while we had a crazy increase in objectives, we failed to perform in the subjectives the way we can. I, too, will have to look at how I contributed to this because I set the program and clearly I didn't adjust correctly. Announcing the recruitment of kids for next year starts tomorrow so hopefully we can get some interest in a fantastic theme.

Thanks for Aquarius and White Rabbit, but sorry USAD...I hate you. "It's Gonna Rain" is way worse that Dripsody. It could be used for torture purposes.

Still waiting for my post count to return to its original number. This being four is depressing. Given that I don't have any social media accounts this was my one thing and now I have four posts. Fix it. I have faith in you and your 1257 posts.

Does this board even work any more? I will assume yes. So I got to spend the weekend at Elsinore High School for my son's water polo tournament, and I was wondering why it's Elsinore High even though it is not in the town of Elsinore (about 6 miles away)? I did like how Edison and Elsinore are both EHS Tigers.

Aaahhh. Why did the message board go down? I needed to vent....

So, CAD decides to put teams 11-20 in the morning judging for speech and interview. At the orientation, state director relays message from judges: "the scores always get better in the afternoon." Hmm. We lost 1489 in subjectives. My 2 varsity lost 498.3 in interview. Honors goes from 1000 to 810? While we were happy to beat University, we were hoping for top 10. When you go up 2800+ in objectives you'd like to think your chances are pretty good, but it wasn't to be. We missed out by 273 points. At least we beat UHS. Now if we could only figure out how to do it at regionals instead of at state (last two years).

Holy mackerel, that is an insane drop in subs. There's no way an Interview score that low could be warranted from one of your students... nor is there any good reason for the scores to inherently be better in the afternoon. That sounds infuriating. :/ That you managed to do so well though despite this is super impressive -- that is an insane objs leap!

What was your score without Super Quiz, if I may ask?
