Wilmot had the largest improvement by far, and I think growth was smaller this year. Subs don't seem to be any lower than usual. I thought the tests were fairly standard for Regionals, but that's just one opinion. I think we're going to see a lot of improvement for state (probably a lot from Wilmot again).

I don't trust your opinion on test difficulty; you also know the material a lot better this year. tongue.gif

Anyone know anything on New Richmond?

New Richmond won our regional at UW Barron. I can get the scores to you when I get home. My husband (and assisstant coach) is holding me hostage at a basketball game.

Altoona took 3rd. Massive improvement. This time last year, we competed with three honors and one scholastic. This year, we brought seven kids (one bailed this week) and took home a lot of ribbons. I will post more details and scores when I have access to my sheets again. smile.gif

Waiting to see how the chips fall amongst divisions and praying we get to state...

As 2016 comes to an end, regionals are about to start with Wisconsin starting us off on the 6th. Post your predictions, thoughts, and comments here.

So far from Wisconsin we have the following for scores above 35k. Still waiting for scores from Green Bay and Stevens Point.
1.) Watertown 40.8
2.) Wilmot Union 38.7
3.) Waukesha West 37.2
4.) Sun Prairie 37.2
5.) New Richmond 36.3
6.) New Berlin Eisenhower 36.2
7.) New Berlin West 35.2

State will be very interesting.

Mrrrrrp, your fifth-place prediction was right after all. tongue.gif Orrrrr, it's possible Bay Port could break into the top five too...? Tee-hee.

Wow though, people are pretty close behind first. And look at NB West -- that's a very substantial improvement from 12th place with 18k at R1. And from not even making it to Regionals last year. That's awesome!! And same with Altoona's performance; great job, Lauren. smile.gif Did those 7 members make a full team?

Do we know whether Waukesha West's 37.2k was higher than Sun Prairie's 37.2k? I'm really weirded out by WW being so low. Especially since they were 23.6k at R1. Did they really not improve at all, despite their long (and recent) track history of big R1->R2 leaps, and only get 13.6k subs on top of that? I suppose that's plausible, especially with Wisconsin always having pretty deflated subs, but I'd be more willing to buy they left a Varsity at home or something. I guess we'll find out at State.

Thanks! We did have a full team this year. Obviously, scores are not exactly where I want them, but for our second year, I'll take it. I was very impressed with the team's improvement and dedication.

I'm interested to see how we placed in our division. Before, we were behind Seymour, Winneconne, Barron, Freedom, and Elk Mound. Barron and Elk Mound were at our regional, so we know we beat them for sure. Now to keep our fingers crossed the we cracked the top three in our division and can move on...

Sorry to see no Altoona on there. sad.gif Looks like they were edged out by 98 points by Northland Pines. Alas. Whatever the case, definitely a huge improvement, and not at all bad for a second year. Can't wait to see Altoona's name on the list next time. smile.gif

Scores of the top 20 available here!

Bay Port ended up coming in at 34k, 9th place. NB West went from 11th to 7th, whoa. Very curious about individual scores from around the state.

Five days until Texas Regionals begins. Morton is riding the bubble as things stand, it'll be really upsetting if we got from #8 at R2 to a sub-40 finish. Trends do not bode well for us. I'm praying for a miracle at this point. I look forward to experiencing Regionals as a spectator this time around, though not being able to affect outcomes will be a weird place to be standing. Best of luck to all competing, and I look forward to socializing with all my coach friends while waiting around during testing.

On a side-note, I'm helping grade essays for Region VII-- hopefully our scores aren't as erratic as usual.

The top scorer in Wisconsin was apparently Cameron Chyla of Waukesha West with 9,185.1.

(Also, I moved Texas predictions and stuff to a separate thread because I wanted a poll. :3)

Why doesn't Iowa do an essay?

According to The Music Man, they are "so by God stubborn [they] can stand touchin' noses for a week at a time, and never see eye to eye." Seems to me that, with only 2 judges for essay, this would make things difficult if there was a score difference large enough to warrant a third grader. Rather than have the judges dig in their heels and duke it out, just leave that stuff for Nationals.

Well, they do for State. I'm not sure why no Essay, but I'm pretty sure they used to until relatively recently. Perhaps one of our native Iowans can fill us in?

As far as I know, Iowa has never done essay for regionals. Our scores have always been out of 9 events. The reason is time, money, and judges. We have none of those.
At state, we do all 10 events. 3-4 years ago we let USAD score them for us. While we saw a deflation in scores, it saved us money.

Sacramento County in CA has their essay on Thursday. Been waiting for (and sort of dreading) this event for months.
