Big Berkner walked away with the number one overall spot, with a score of 37.7K, 9.8K from subjectives. That's a low subjective score for us, as we typically range in the high 13s-mid 14s at Regionals.

With about 27.9 in objectives, we would've beaten Rockwall a month ago. rolleyes.gif But, yes, those Rockwall meets have been inspiring to us.

Derek Hammons had the overall high score at the meet with 8141.

We used Round 1 USAD tests: 540 was a gold medal in Lang and Lit... in Honors and Scholastic... 520 did the trick in Varsity. Math scores ran just higher than Lang and Lit scores, and the math proctor didn't even say when there was 5 minutes left for the kids to start bubbling in answers to the ones they hadn't gotten to yet...

EDIT: NO WAIT I FORGOT TO ADD ESSAY TO SUBJECTIVES DANG IT DANG IT DANG IT... 24.1 in seven objectives...

Congratulations, 27.9 is a massive score. If I understand correctly, that would have put you guys 6th in LAUSD, which is a true achievement. But those Lang/Lit scores look to be across-the-board-bad.

LOL

Rockwall will break 30k on the Rd. 1 test.

Congrats Dean, I know you are proud of your kids, they seem to be working hard for you and stepping up. Keep it up!

Congrats, Mr. Webb!! That's a fantastic score, quite a jump from the Rockwall meet. If you continue to progress like that, we might have to think about another team entering he realm of championship caliber in Texas, since the mid-27s to 28s at round 1 usually constitute a championship contender, unless some team is around or above 30k (See: Pearland in '08 and '09)

Congrats. We're just hoping to compete with this score when we take the test on December 4th. Post scores! If math and lang and lit are that difficult, I don't see how we break 30K.

Derek got an 828 on his Math, as you see.

OH NUTS. I measured subjectives without Essay. Damn. We only got 24.1 in objectives, 13.6 in subjectives.

OK, now we *really* have to get to working!

Still, these guys are really doing well! I'm quite proud of this crew and hope we can hit the big time in January.

We beat 'em by 884. We did have a big deficit to them in speech and interview, but made it up in the other areas and then some.

Also, we'd be 8th in LAUSD's top 25. I'm back to feeling good about that.

Using Berkner's percentage of improvement from Rockwall to Round 1, here's a guess for the top 4 teams:

1. Rockwall 30,073
2. CDO 29,729
3. Seven Lakes 28,649
4. Pearland 28,135

We will not be this high and CDO and Seven Lakes will be much higher for sure although I hope that you are accurate.

You're assuming quite a tight correlation between USAD and those DemiDec competition exams. I've noticed a much stronger correlation between the PTB and Rd. 1. Over the past 3 years we've been able to match our PTB score, at least within a statistically insignificant margin, or a significant increase. We've never decreased from PTB to Rd. 1.

With the prediction you are making there, based on the Copper exam and one team. We would drop 2,200 points. I don't see that happening. But I guess we will see in 2 weeks.

Your team is definitely the outlier in terms of what we've seen. The statistical analysis on this is short and very lacking, but it's the best way I could find something. If I had other teams that took PTB and had scores like Berkner I could make a more accurate prediction, assuming your theory of correlation is correct (probably more so than mine). I also expect Pearland to be much higher of course, so in reality I just think it gets us a little bit of an idea where these teams could be.

I'm trying to be optimistic about my team. popcorn.gif

And you really don't have much else to go by, the only other school that I know of that took the PTB within this week span was Cinco. So you're doing the right thing, with the data you have.

I'm just not a big fan of those competition exams.

But if our score is closer to your prediction than mine, there are going to be a lot of 7L students looking for rides back to Katy from Pearland after the Rd. 1 meet. They will not want to get on the bus with me if our score drops 2k in 3 weeks.
