Despite the fact that half of California's Regionals results remain unknown, State is already starting!! First up is Indiana this weekend (we had three teams near or over 40k last year; what will we see this year??), followed by Nebraska the next, and then seven states in one weekend with Alaska, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, and Wyoming all the 22nd-27th. And that's not counting Kansas, the weirdo that has State in January (still unknown who won).

State dates here!

It looks like Martinsville reclaimed their title as Indiana champs for the first time since their 12-year streak was broken in 2015! Lowell in second. Don't know scores yet. Wonder if it was as close as last year!

I understand completely as I look at 37 more calendar days-- 34 of which we will meet. Yesterday I was walking my kid's baseball bag down to the middle school and saw the exodus of teachers leaving within 10 minutes of the final bell while knowing I had four more hours in my classroom.Remind me why I do this?

My Mount Michael team wins Nebraska! First small school to do that here. My kids and I are super pumped!

Score was 42,830 for nine tests plus team super quiz. High score was 7698 for nine subjects...I'm pretty proud of him. That's a team record by about 500 points.

Thanks for the congratulations!
Not a state record...he wasn't even the highest yesterday. Lisa Vu from Pius was the highest score. And last year I think they had someone break 8000.

Alaska state awards banquet is tonight. I have most unfortunately learned that my former team, West Valley, has only one varsity and is therefore not in contention to win, although they should still get plenty of individual medals. They had a coaching change this year and I think recruitment suffered. Lathrop and IDEA are the front runners. It has been fun to meet some talented kids this week helping out with speech, interview, and SQ.

After transitioning from the role of AcaDec coach to helping my wife open her own clinic, this is my first time in 17 years not attending the State Meet ... I feel like a big part of who I am is missing. sad.gif I will be waiting for results throughout today... especially the subjectives for Mediums in El Paso (the first time away from San Antonio since 2001).

Trumbull High School hosted the Connecticut State competition last Saturday. I got to head down for a mini-road trip with Jimmy Thai and Aisha Chandraker -- it was so much fun!! Three CT schools competed, plus Wootton of Maryland, and good times were had by all. smile.gif

Team Scores:
1. Trumbull High School (CT) 31,561.0
2. Thomas S. Wootton High School (MD) 29,137.8
3. Amity Regional High School (CT) 24,870.3
4. New Fairfield High School (CT) 11,000.5 (late additions; only Honors)

Now to prepare for Massachusetts's State competition this upcoming Saturday... maybe I'll get to sleep eventually...

In other news, Lyndonville won New York with an unknown score.

St. Peter wins Minnesota with 33,659.0!

Also, Wheatland took back the Wyoming state title, but I'm not sure of the score.

Also also, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe won Georgia. Anyone have any more info on that?

California has completed their state essays. I don't know that it helped but we wrote a practice essay yesterday that had a social science prompt that would have been a major component of today's more general prompt. At a minimum they at least had fresh thoughts in their head.

Massachusetts just had State today at MIT! Thanks to a big team of former Decathletes for making this happen -- MassDec veterans Eric Yang, Lizzy Hubbard, Gillian Lee, and Dominik Martinez; newcomers this year Federico Llarena, Jimmy Thai, and Hannah Chang; and former Massachusetts Decathletes Aisha Chandraker, Allison Kumarasena, and Eric Zhou! I am tired and falling asleep at the keyboard but here are the results:
