The funniest bit: "It came out that Yu, a prankster, has a penchant for giving teammate Justin Chau “a heart attack” by popping up from unlikely places and scaring him. One time, he ran up and accidentally scared teammate Melissa Cheng’s mother in the passenger seat of a car — thinking she was Cheng — after the team had been out celebrating the girl’s birthday."

One quote from Boone really resonates with the value of "team chemistry" that I was talking about with TinDefacto and Stanley_Tree last night: "If it weren’t for every single one of us, I don’t think we could have done it."

It really surprised me last night when in that conversation I realized that: Kris Sankaran, Sean Wejebe, Nick Vitolo, Atish Sawant, Jimmy Wu, and Rohan Boone on the same team would probably not do as well as expected and definitely not over 55,000/60,000 like what we get when we combine their scores.

How do you create good team chemistry, especially while recruiting and choosing students?

I really try not to make it sound like a religious experience when I talk about Academic Decathlon, but it isn't easy.

These highest scorers in each GPA category come from: 2009, 2012, 2000, 2006, 2012, 2014.

I wonder why there is a dearth in scholastic record-breakers.

That really was a great article. Thanks for sharing. The Californian press coverage is amazing.
