QUOTE (acadecker @ Feb 5 2012, 09:33 AM) *
For the first time in history, we had good subjectives. It took a huge weight off of my shoulders when the coaches were called in to look for any oddities in the subjective's, and I realized that we did well. Helena took the top speech trophy as well as scoring a perfect 1,000 for the third time in a row (district, Kingman, Regionals). Markaya nabbed a perfect 1,000 in Interview, and almost all of our speech, interview, and essay scores were fairly high. This is so unusual for our team, it defies description. We usually need to make up a 3,000 point deficit after Friday's events through testing on Saturday, and this year we did not have to do that.

I was doing the usual medal tally during the awards ceremony, trying to figure out how we were going to wind up, and I knew it was coming down to Boulder, Creek, Cesar Chavez, and South Mountain, but the total medals were very close, and there are just too many strange things that can happen at that point. Super Quiz Relay had been a mess, with low scoring from all schools, making the top schools bunch so tightly together that it did not help in pointing to who was going to wind up on top.

SQ Relay

Mountain Ridge - 26

Cesar Chavez - 24
South Mountain - 24
Sandra Day O'Connor - 24
University Tolleson - 24

Fairfax - 22
? - 22

We (South) have not been great on stage all year, yet I know our kids know the material. I think the nerves get to them on stage, because they knew this stuff. So, I was anxiously awaiting the combined scores, figuring that if we took that, it might put us over the top for the entire competition.

Combined SQ

South Mounatain
Cesar Chavez
Mountain Ridge

Based on the scores I'm seeing from Los Angeles and Fresno counties, yes.

Nice going on the 8th place overall in LACAD SQ with only sophomores on your team. That's impressive.

Very. Winner at region is usually about 35, pushing 40 at state.

CDO scored 31 (or was it 32?) in the relay. What were the relay scores in Region 4?

My alma mater has been wondering how small schools in other regions did (since that's their competition for small schools nationals). Anyone know how St. Johns did?

St Johns won R1, but I don't know their score. I'm waiting for Jason Burch to send out all the scores.

Most I got was 2000+ points ahead of Blue Ridge. Region I's top scorer is not very helpful.

Aye. He says to me he was top-scorer with a 72xx. Not too shabby.

I will be bugging him all day for information. Let's see if I can get his phone taken away from him. Hahaha.

Hamilton has a terrific chance to win state! See what North Canyon did here:

Wow interesting. This is going to be such an exciting state--4-5 teams with a great chance to win it. That hasn't happened in forever...

Do you have a more complete score breakdown?

If you do and can send it to me at: brendanDOTtgATgmailDOTcom, that would rock.
