Division listings are out! biggrin.gif

32 states competing -- same as last year, but some differences. Two were not at Madison last year: Oregon (Central HS again) and Florida (University Christian HS). The two miissing are: Maryland (didn't have a full team) and South Carolina (what??). Really sad Dreher won't be there; they've been really good recently, and I hope this means their program hasn't folded.

Also, HOLY FRAP Oakwood is in Division II this year!! ohmy.gif

EDIT: Made poll!

EDIT EDIT: Made the Google Forms poll! Take it here! biggrin.gif Results here (pretty) and here (raw).

Added a poll! biggrin.gif Alas, very limited in number of questions... may do the ol' Google Forms thing again (and I'll be better at sharing results this time around!).

Edit: Made the Google Forms poll! Take it here! biggrin.gif

Well-designed poll! Can't wait to see how the wisdom of the crowds does this year... especially if we can get more people to take it. smile.gif

Intriguing that 9 of 15 respondents in D1 predictions think Canyon Del Oro can jump ahead of Whitney Young. That would be a first since 2009 (and it's not even clear how they compared in 2009 state scores because Illinois had no Interview at state that year).

Can we post stories from nationals here? I can report that Kansas is super windy, and I'm happy to say that only ONE of my varsity students climbed on the roof of the rest area pavilion and then fell off.

Yes, please share stories for those of us who can't make it! biggrin.gif This is such an inspiring post in particular! If I ever coach someday, I too want to measure my success in year-over-year decreases in the number of varsity students who climb onto roofs and fall off cool.gif

Clicker disaster! First test used clickers, 2nd test had to go with scantron. They are now a full half hour behind, and they are going to try clickers again. My kids are not happy with that.

Update...the wifi crashed again right at the start of the 3rd test, so it's scantron again. At this point, hopefully they stick with that. They are essentially 30 minutes behind.

They ended up deciding to just keep using Scantrons. When clickers work, they work well, but it's always good to have a backup plan!

Checking in personally: Nationals is SO much fun, and it's been incredible meeting so many amazing people! Lots of Dallas-area coaches volunteering too. smile.gif

Didn't affect us, but I hear that some economics scores were reported as zero, probably due to clicker issues. It wasn't noticed until coaches got score reports. No idea how that will affect standings and medals.

Also, two of my kids tied on speech, down to the same decimal point. That's not super likely, is it? I'm thinking that has to be an error.

Both Rhode Island and us had our top Varsity scorer received 0's in Econ. (There were 12 others). We brought the concern to USAD immediatly after receiving scores and were told that it was our students fault. Both of our students have used the clickers in the past. Both reported that they submitted their scores with no problems. Very upset that, once again, USAD seems to treat inaccuracies as common place, and shifts the blame.

Cancel that. Evidently they do not. As someone who spent hours organizing the clickers and setting them to the right channels, I have now been convinced that they are no more time-efficient than Scantrons -- and perhaps much less. 14 students received 0's for the one test that was completed with clickers -- Econ -- and there's no way to know if it was the students' fault or not. I will point, as Darrow did, out that two of the three affected individuals I know of were at Nationals last year and didn't seem to have any problems.

Almost certainly just a coincidence; I've seen that happen a fair amount!

This is the first time we've ever seen something of this magnitude, and it happens to come at nationals? We've used them for practice meets, regionals, and state for several years now and none of them have done anything like this.

--------------------

Competition
2008 Texas State team champions- Pearland
2008 Texas State individual champion varsity category

Coach
2017 Texas State Large School state champion- Dulles
2018 Texas State Large School state champion- Dulles
