A brief preview: cut the subjectives down to two by combining speech (500pts) and interview (500pts) but make speech only impromptu and make impromptu specifically related to the AcDec topic . Doing this cuts the man power needs by about 40%. Have the interview first (5 minutes) follow with the impromptu (4 minutes) scored by the same judges....More later

But then we are talking about Academic Nonathlon..... doesn't have as nice of a ring to it tongue.gif

Winners of state tourneys advance, BUT so do a certain number of schools scoring above a threshhold score (say....47,000). This way, the "small scoring" states still get invited to Nationals, but so too do more schools from the large scoring states. The idea which seems to elude the general organizers of this event is to get more and more public interest (look how many people were intrigued by the pseudo-decathlon in Spider-Man)
more ideas later.

I definitely agree with this point.

Maybe instead of writing a huge essay you can talk through it. I'm starting a Decathlon podcast soon--might be a fun venue to talk about stuff like this if you're interested.

would be a great thing for all to do.....you could interview coaches from different states and ages...what a cool concept.....now all we need is time.

that's definitely the plan!

After I get in the groove a little bit I'll reach out and see if we can carve an hour for some fun conversation. Maybe by then I'll be able to rope some other Decathlon veterans with radical ideas, too...
