So, other major players we still don't have R1 scores from:
  • Coppell
  • Hebron
  • Summit
  • Wylie East
  • Arlington
  • Foster
  • Plano Senior
  • Marcus
  • Montgomery
  • El Paso Coronado
  • Monterey
  • Estacado
  • Talkington
  • JPII
  • Taylor
  • Townview TAG & S&E
  • Cinco Ranch
  • Martin
  • Flower Mound

Anyone know anything about any of these? (Or anyone else? :3) Was there even a Flower Mound meet at all or was I making that up?

It was not a fun day, I will tell you that much. Telling 13 kids you're done is never easy. Especially when many of them were so close.

Definitely the hardest part about having a great team. :/ But a great team you have.

This may be the most info we've had for a round 1 ever. Pretty neat.

I concur! biggrin.gif

I really want to thank Sebastian for his hard work scoremongering, generating these beautiful spreadsheets, and being a key driving force behind the greater AcaDeca transparency as well as preservation of history that we have today! He does all of this on top of his day job, being the Massachusetts Academic Decathlon state director, and just being outstanding! Thank you for "the most info we've had for a round 1 ever"!

Yes, definitely, thank you very much, Sebastian.

Do you build those by hand, or do you use a macro of some sort?

The spreadsheets or competition results pages? All credit for the competition score spreadsheets I use goes to Greg Thomson of Nimitz (nil). All I did was hack together some extra functions and tabs. I do use a spreadsheet I made to keep track of the lists of scores per round (like the Round 1/2018 page), paired with the wikitable generator Robb (madcap) made. All I really do is annoy people into giving me scores and then format the numbers into spreadsheets. tongue.gif (And update ADSIC if I'm given explicit permission to post.)

I guess my question is: how do you get the numbers from the reports I sent you into the spreadsheet that has all the CDO Scrimmage info?

Ohhhh gotcha. Just copy + paste from the comprehensive team report PDF's into a .txt file, which I then import into Excel using spaces as a delimiter. Bam. Fifteen minutes!

Lewisville ISD results are in!! Holy mackerel Region IX is looking ultra-competitive this year. All five of these teams have improved immensely from last year! And it'll these plus Irving ISD plus Coppell, among others. I'm predicting seven 40k Large teams for Region IX, which is completely unprecedented -- the most in the past decade has been four!!

Teams:
1) Hebron - 30,431.4 (making up a 1.5k gap between them and Marcus at Medium)
2) Marcus - 30,240.0
3) The Colony - 27,200.0
4) Flower Mound - 27,068.6
5) Lewisville - 22,637.1

A ton of these students made dramatic increases from USAD Medium.

Honors:
1) Brendan Glascock (Hebron) - 6420.0
2) Debbie Kim (Hebron) - 5980.0
3) Jordan Springer (Hebron) - 5937.1
4) Chloe Agis (Marcus) - 5845.7
5) Lindsay Grant (The Colony) - 5537.1
6) Chuk Uzowihe (Flower Mound) - 5314.3
7) Shreya Lingam (Flower Mound) - 5294.3
8) Christy Nguyen (Hebron) - 5277.1
9) Nathan Epstein (Marcus) - 4928.6
10) Lydia Malone (Lewisville) - 4802.9

Scholastic:
1) Sai Ramesh (Marcus) - 5840.0
2) Nicole Arnold (The Colony) - 5520.0
3) Emma Brown (Hebron) - 5248.6
4) Emilia Ferreyra (Marcus) - 5208.6
5) Keldan Seeger (Marcus) - 4985.7
6) Amna Yasin (Hebron) - 4685.7
7) Carleigh Jernigan (Flower Mound) - 4611.4
8) Jessie Hui (The Colony) - 4508.57
9) Reilly Townsend (Lewisville) - 4345.7
10) Anne Marie Kluthe (Flower Mound) - 4288.6

I think we may see quite the conglomeration of 8k Scholastics in Region IX this year.

Varsity:
1) Ian Mathews (Hebron) - 4571.4
2) Sam Bommareddy (Flower Mound) - 4537.1
3) AJ Pettit (Marcus) 4497.1
4) Sonali Patel (Marcus) - 3920.0
5) Sophia Rojo (The Colony) - 3634.3

Well done, LISD!

Cesar Chavez took their set a bit earlier too. However, CDO is well known for big jumps between rd 1 and state, so that could lead to a very tight race for Arizona.

To piggyback on this, we also have most of Texas. There are a few clear gaps, which I will add at the end, but we could get a good idea of teams that have a shot at qualifying for state this year.

[b]Texas Round 1[/b}
1. Dulles 35,662.9 (L)
2. Lubbock 33,988.6 (M)
3. Highland Park 33,434.3 (M)
4. James E. Taylor 32,097.2 (L)
5. Klein 31,697.2 (L)
6. Rockwall Heath 31,122.8 (L)
7. Seven Lakes 30,785.8 (L)
8. Friendswood 30,759.9 (L)
9. J.J. Pearce 30,528.5 (L)- took three weeks or so earlier than most, so this could be another 1k higher.
10. Hebron 30,431.4 (L)
11. Marcus 30,240 (L)
12. Rockwall 29,851.5 (L)
13. Plano East 29,157 (L)
14. Pearland 29,020 (L)
15. Irving 28,951.4 (L)
16. Little Elm 28,768.7 (M)
17. Keller 28,688.6 (L)
18. Clear Lake 28,077.2 (L)
19. Richardson 27,814 (L)
20. Morton Ranch 27,811.5 (L)
21. Lebanon Trail 27,522.7 (M?)
22. Nimitz 27,277.2 (L)
23. The Colony 27,200 (M)
24. Clear Creek 27,182.8 (L)
25. Flower Mound 27,068.6 (L)
26. Alvin 26,525.7 (L)
27. Pasadena Memorial 26,457.1 (L)
28. Centennial 26,442.8 (M)
29. Reedy 26,374.3 (M)
30. Lone Star 26,051.5 (M)
31. Bandera 25,842.9 (S)
32. Barbers Hill 25,651.4 (M)

Teams we are missing with any known scores from this year:
Plano Senior (28,888.5 at Medium)
Mansfield Summit (28,822.7 at Medium)
Coppell (25,637.1 at Easy)
Dobie (won Pasadena R1 meet over Memorial by a few thousand, so 28k?)
Montgomery (39k last year at state)
Clear Springs (39k last year at state)
MacArthur (39k last year at state)
Arlington (25,942.9 at Medium)
El Paso Coronado (37,888.3 last year at state)
Arlington Martin (26,374.4 at Medium)
Klein Collins (36k last year at state)
Wylie East (26,997.2 at Medium)
Foster (40k last year at state)
King (40k last year at state)

There's a few others missing but right now those 32 teams look good for over 40k, with a few others who will also clear that hurdle. 31 did that at state, so this seems to be a relatively strong year for Texas. Also you have to be over 30k to even sniff the top 10 now, which is quite the departure from last year when only five made it over at round 1. Could also be an indicator of an easier year. Across the board, Texas honors and scholastics look absolutely stellar, and the scholastics have grown in strength a lot since last year across the state. The varsities are really holding down the state- several of the top teams have possibly historic honors and scholastics, with varsities who have yet to figure it out. As we learned last year at Dulles, it takes them a while to really "figure it out", if they ever do. The scores across the board this year remind me a lot of 2016 when we had six teams over 50k, except for the varsities. Barring severe test difficulty spikes, I would expect to see 3 teams over 50k this year at state (we certainly won't at regionals with the subs there). Overall, a strong year for Texas it seems with it becoming so close to a historically strong year depth-wise.

Thanks for the list! I agree, Texas is really looking great this year -- even if you argue about easier tests or whatever, there's a ton of teams newly in the fold and making it to State every year and growing stronger with each season. In just the past couple of years we've seen the emergence of Dulles, Little Elm, Hebron, Pasadena Memorial, Ridge Point, Alvin, and now likely Bandera and Wylie East (as well as any new Frisco school that pops up). Plus, some teams that had long done well seem to have now kicked it up a notch, like Summit, Coppell, Lubbock, and Klein. Granted, some teams are also faltering, largely due to coaches moving or retiring or things like that, but I really do think that overall the teams really are getting stronger, and that makes me happy.

Last year there were 36 teams over 40k at Regionals; in 2016, there were 45. My current rough estimates put the number for this year at 45-54. This would make the cutoff for Large at right about 39k and for Medium 35k. (Don't worry, I'll go way moretoo in-depth in a predictions post next month!)

As for 50k teams, I'm definitely also seeing three, but there's one other team I secretly have in mind who just may be able to join them... (And no, it's not Liberty. tongue.gif)
