That would be cool... all speeches must include at least 3 instances of each of the following, or be disqualified:

Yarr
Avast
Ahoy
Matey

And "Shiffer me timbers" and also - Is that your wooden leg or are you just glad to see me!

Parrots may be allowed on the shoulder while giving speech but AcDec Competator may not use it as a prop. The impromptu however the Parrot can be fully imploysed.

Can you just see some kid complaining - "My Dam parrot knew that answer 2 weeks ago!"

This would be kind of cool, probably a lot better than what its actually going to be . . .

My guess: India. Enormously important society that has never been done by AcDec. BTW, I called The Great Depression. I was just a year off. I thought they would do it in 2009-2010.

I've run that by a few kids about next year and they find it very interesting.
As a coach, I'd find it very uninteresting. For me that would rank up there with China, awful art and awful music.

And I called the FR in the year that it occured. tongue.gif

I think Russian history would be an interesting choice, especially if they covered it as thoroughly as China (yes, the music was strange, but I did like the Crab and Egret number): Ivan the terrible, Nicholas and Alexandria, Rasputin, the Bolshevik Revolution, Soviet Union, World Wars, the whole Yeltsin thing, lots of Russian composers to choose from, lots of good stuff.

I agree Russia and India are the leading contenders...

They have done 4 Western Themes in a row (Civil War, Latin America, FR, GD), so a turn to the Eastern World sounds like a good choice. And two event specific in a row (FR, GD), so here is a chance to go into a single nation and cover it from Ancient to the Present, just as they did China.

But what about some thematic device they used from way back....like something about Law in Society (PoliSci, Gov, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Religious Law)

Kids seemed to really enjoy those, like they got a taste of college intro classes in topics they didn't study in HS.

Anyone care to lay odds?

I know I wouldn't enjoy the music as much as I have this year, but I would still enjoy learning more about all the different aspects of Indian society and history. Russia would be very cool too.

I'd have to get on board with those guessing either the Middle East or India. We're well overdue for a "non-Western" and non-event specific theme.

Don't hate on the Indian music until after USAD posts the suggestions that are lamer than they could have chosen.

Haha. I remember how disappointed I was that Big Rock Candy Mountain wasn't a music selection for this year.

If they do Russia, I'll be super jealous. I'll probably have to break into the AcDec room and steal a copy of the resources. Russia is what I was hoping it would be this year. glare.gif

A lot of us were thinking either Russia or India. Boy, were we surprised...
