Seven area teams headed for state academic competition
By Amy Hetzner of the Journal Sentinel
Jan. 10, 2011 10:18 a.m.

Seven high schools from the Milwaukee area are among 20 that have earned spots in the state Academic Decathlon competition, based on their performance at regional events last week.

Of those teams, six are from Waukesha County, with Waukesha West and New Berlin Eisenhower high schools posting the highest scores in the state, according to Molly Ritchie, state director of Wisconsin Academic Decathlon. She said two students from those teams had perfect 1,000 scores -- Joshua Graham in social science and Tong Wang in prepared and impromptu speeches.

The other high schools that will be sending teams to the state competition are Brookfield Academy and Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, Slinger and Waukesha South high schools.

Academic decathlon pits teams of nine students against each other in a competition that includes written tests and essays as well as interviews and speeches. Waukesha West has won the state title for the past nine years.

is that the 9-event total?

I assume so, the lady that reports for the Milwaukee paper was the one that sent me the score.

New Berlin Eisenhower: 35,790

I'd say there are a number of teams in the running for the overall state title this year and Rockwall is certainly one of those teams.

Solid Score. Given the nature of SQ, that extrapolates to 8000+ easy, probably closer to a high 8.2, low 8.3k. Well done.

Unfortunately, I'm still trying to live up to our top honors' score from last year (~8500 extrapolated Regionals score)

Highest scoring student in each subject up. Shows langlit will be a beast of a test with a 720 as the high score. SoSci looks to be really easy on the flip side (unless Josh Graham is a SoSci beast, a distinct possibility), and math shouldn't be too downright insane.
