Hi all,

Nick Welch and I are excited to announce the Third Annual DemiDecTalk Scrimmage!! biggrin.gif cool.gif jay.gif yahoo.gif

For those of you who weren't there for the first two (or who simply tend to forget incredibly important occurrences), the DDT Scrimmage was a concept dreamed up by Nick during his senior year: what would happen if all the teams on DDT just took a set of tests the same weekend and competed against each other? One DDT post later, and it was a reality!

This scrimmage will be taking place from January 11-23. Teams will receive free tests and will submit their scores via an Excel or Google Doc spreadsheet. At the end of the scrimmage, we will tally up the results and send out a full awards packet; however, because of the longer testing window, we will also be updating the results in real time on a master Google Doc sent out to each coach after they finish!

Our first year we used Decademy tests, and our second year we used DemiDec tests; now, this year, Xathlon has graciously offered a set of their tests to use -- as well as test package prizes for lucky winners!

Info:
* Thursday, January 11 through Tuesday, January 23
* May test on any one day in the window, though we recommend you please take all seven tests within as short a frame as possible (optimally one day)
* Open to any team in the world, regardless of Xathlon subscription or whether you have a DDT account
* As many students as who want may participate (i.e. not only the final team members)
* Tests will be proctored by coaches with scores input into a separate Google Doc per team
* All scores will be shared as teams finish & submit their scores

SIGN UP HERE!

So excited to do this again -- thanks so much for Nick Synodis of Xathlon for helping make dreams come true! smile.gif

Love,
Nick & Sebastian

Nope! Anybody who has already signed up need not do so again!

Curious about the dates. Form states Jan 16-23, which falls on our sem. exam week and regional competition for this particular Texas team, but the post states Jan 11th, which provides more breathing space. I find this post to be really interesting but am apprehensive about the two different dates. If the test is definitely available prior to the 16th, then I think my team is on-board. Happy Holidays.

Ah, good catch! The testing indeed starts on the 11th—that has now been fixed!! Thanks for bringing that to our attention. smile.gif

Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate it!

22 schools are currently signed up to compete! Mostly from California for now, through Xathlon directly, but once the holidays are over and more people are checking DDT again I think we'll be seeing a lot more from Texas, Arizona and others. smile.gif

Alright everyone, so: Nick and I have been thinking about how we have so many teams competing, including three 50k-level teams, and we felt like it would be a good idea to introduce divisions of some sort so that teams can compete with others on about their same level. After thinking for a while, we arrived at what we think is the best system: retroactive score-based divisions!

In essence, here's how it'll work: everyone will finish the scrimmage, and then we'll sort into divisions based on the final team scores. The top five will be Division I, next fifteen Division II, and the remainder Division III. Each division will have the top five students per event (per GPA bracket) recognized.

During the scrimmage, as promised, you will still be able to see how everyone did (only after submitting your team's final scores, of course) -- the divisions just won't be in place until after everyone's results are in. You will still have everyone's full scores, so you can still see how you did to teams from other divisions as well!

I hope everyone finds this idea agreeable -- please let us know what you think! We want to give all competitors the best experience possible, so we're always all ears. smile.gif

Wow, that's awesome. Congrats! So what date do you expect the coaches to obtain the tests via email? I'm hoping to administer the tests on two days - 1/12 and 1/15.

I had my entire class take the very challenging lit test in class on Friday. I'm having my competing regional team coming in to take most of the tests (not all seven though) on the MLK Holiday. We'll finish the rest by Wednesday as practice. But our scores won't be in that top group (or possibly even the middle group) level. I'm hoping the other tests are easier than the lit test for the kids.
