And what a parade it is, ladies and gentlemen! 35 states and the US Virgin Islands! What a spectacle there is to behold! You simply can't imagine the excitement and thrill of the occasion! IT'S LIKE NO OTHER PARADE OF FLAGS, EVER!!!!

Actually, it is. No real surprises. No last-minute state flag substitutions.

Someone's playing the Star-Spangled Banner on an electrified guitar.

Innnnnnnnnteresting.

OK blah blah blah speeches blah blah blah but I'm out where I can hear the ROTC teacher critiquing his cadets on how they did the flag ceremony. I have never seen a flag ceremony debriefing outside a Boy Scout troop before, so this is kinda taking me back.

As I enjoy this massively good signal, it occurs to me that perhaps it's better here because all the students are no longer on the interwebs. Maybe. IDK.

Melissa Corbett of South Carolina got the first Kristin Caperton award.

Sarah (missed last name) from Nebraska, the highest-scoring varsity from the small school competition, received the second.

Well done, students, and we of DemiDec salute these great kids who set great examples!

Moving right along, it's time for brunch!

Say what? That's right. BRUNCH.

Not a breakfast, not a lunch, a BRUNCH.

This is not Vietnam: there are RULES here. There are Division II and Division III buffet tables, but no Division I tables. UPSET!

Also, Abuelo says hi.

Dan says the place smells like pancake syrup.

Table 24 just got dismissed to the buffet table. We're at table 62. We'll see if the Land of Big Food has plenty for us when we get there.

Also, I'm wearing a Nebraska pin. *Should* it help keep me from getting hassled? No. *Will* it help keep me from getting hassled? Yes.

Which reminds me, I want to order a TSA lapel pin...

And should I not get any food this morning, I will not worry: there are several uneaten chocolate place settings that I can chow down on. Plus, I kinda had enough to eat in the time I've been here. So I'll be good to go until lunch, should it come to that.

QUESTION: Is there an Small School Online Brunch, where they can download pictures of bacon and waffles?

Have mercy, but this internet signal is good! I DON'T EVER WANT IT TO END! I'd check for pr0n right now if I was a SEC executive, it's that good!

Those of you expecting awards, by the way, need to hold your horses. Peoples gotta eat. Just kick back and be entertained by my witty banter and all will be well.

Unless my battery dies, then I'll have a short hiatus as I move my chair back 10 feet to where I can plug in. And, yes, it's a sad statement on society today that I'd forego a brunch in favor of keeping my computer from shutting down.

Say! The varsity kid from Louisiana with the Raptor jacket is at the next table over! That is one awesome jacket. If I was in charge of awards, I'd hand one out to her for coolest hoodie. IT WOULD BE A GOLD MEDAL.

Maybe we should have a DemiDec pre-awards assembly at the 6th Annual DemiDec Porkless Cheesecake Par-Tay 'n' Bash...

TABLES 25-30 ARE DISMISSED TO THE BUFFET TABLE! AND TABLES 31-36! I CAN BARELY CONTAIN MYSELF! THIS IS ELECTRIFYING ACTION!

I had to change my sitting position because my legs were going numb. Other than that, I need to give the award to Collegiate Academy from PA for "Best Award Ninja'ing at a SuperQuiz". The USAD folks didn't anticipate ties at SQ Relay, so they let the teams know they'd ship out an award to one team and let the other take the plaque home.

ECR went up to get their third place plaque... and then the officials stripped them of it and handed it over to Collegiate Academy. Sure, they'll get another one, and, no, technically, they weren't stripped of the award in any official way, and no, I don't mean to demean their great accomplishments in SQ, but, all the same...

PA TOOK THE AWARD AWAY FROM ECR! NINJAAAAAA!!!!

The band is now playing Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon". This is really good high school jazz band ensemble action.

Rutherford High from New Jersey gets the "ZOMG YOU GOT A RAMY IN TRAINING AWARD" because they have a Ramy Youssef in training. If you haven't met Ramy, well, sorry. You've missed out on an experience. It's good to know another potential Ramy is on deck and well done to the NJ team for getting him ready to go.

If Noxon High from Montana were here, they'd win the "Most Palindromic" award. Just sayin'.

Tables up to 48 have now been sent to get chow. THE TENSION IS BUILDING!!! WHO WILL GET FIRST PLACE IN BRUNCH!

Omaha knows how to party. This water tastes great! AND IT'S LESS FILLING!

In other "Other Awards", Rhode Island wins for "Earliest Flight Out of Nationals." They all had to leave before the ceremony started.

The teams from Arizona, Illinois, and Texas are tied for "Most ECR-related Voodoo Dolls Award." Let's see if Papa Legba opens up the gate for any of them...

OK, the sweat from my glass is dripping on my laptop. This is SRS BSNSS. I need to rearrange my setup so I don't short out my laptop keyboard with a bit of condensation that decided to make a break for freedom.

I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE LITERARY GEMS I'M DISHING UP HERE! If you're just scrolling through to the finish, you don't know what you're missing, folks!

Daniel Berdichevsky just won the "Most Frequent Flyer Miles Award" for the 6th year running. WHAT A STREAK!

Tables 49-54 are going to the buffet... NOW 55-60!

Aw, man.

I'm at table 62.

Can't complain, though... As long as I'm not eating, I can type in an ergonomically sound fashion.

There are a lot of kids about to pass out here from lack of sleep. That jazz band needs to play a perkier number.

Also also wik, Waukesha wins "Most Epic Rave Shutdown". PLEASE NO WAUKESHA SLAMS HERE. We're here to salute their accomplishments. Give 'em a hand, folks.

The kids at table 51 just won the biggest pile of breakfast pork award. I had no idea bacon and sausage could stack so high.

Dean Schaeffer is now signing autographs. The man's a rock star.

TIME FOR US TO GET SOME VITTLES!
