CA Regionals testing is today!! Most counties will know the results this weekend, except LAUSD, which will have their awards ceremony next weekend, and LACAD, which will have to wait a couple more days on top of that. (And I thought it was bad enough to have awards be the day after testing at State...) Best of luck to all Decathletes involved!! biggrin.gif

Ventura County's award ceremony is Monday but I have the unofficial results from Super Quiz. It should be accurate but it was hard to see all the scores as they went up.

Oak Park - 54
Westlake - 53
Moorpark - 50
Westlake B - 48
Oxnard - 47

I said 44.5K on the high end. Who's sandbagging now DTLA? I guess I have a better measuring stick this year. Damn.

Point taken SoS. Good call. I highly doubt 44.8 is going to get you into D2, though it would be fun to rake in medals while charging towards to the top of the pack. D2 has always bothered me for that reason, but that's a different conversation.

Unofficial LAUSD relay scores
1. Franklin, Granada - 65
2. ECR, Marshall - 64
3. Garfield - 58
4. Grant - 57
5. Bell - 56

We only got 53, so projecting 7 teams better right here in LAUSD plus the ones I don't see between 56 and 53.

Edgewood received a 61. Proud of the kids, but we definitely scored a lot lower overall.

Big jumps from these teams from last year, especially Elsinore. It seems to me that score inflation is real- this talk of "Texas Renaissance", as I expected, was overblown.

I couldn't agree more. From DDSIC, here are the number of Honors who scored over 8,500 points at regionals each year, excluding LAUSD, Los Angeles County, Ventura County, Kern County, Sacramento County, and San Diego County (because we don't have their individual scores for 2015 yet...).

2006: 9
2007: 2
2008: 13
2009: 16
2010: 2
2011: 4
2012: 19
2013: 10
2014: 23
2015: 32

A 39% increase over the next highest year on record?? That's some monstrous inflation. I fear for what LAUSD will produce on Friday. There is talk about Sankaran's record falling very soon. It also seems very likely that we will end the Regionals/2015 score-gathering with 40 Honors over 8.5k.

Think about that for a bit. 40 Honors over 8.5k.

It's like 2008 all over again: a record-eclipsing year for Academic Decathlon everywhere. Decathletes will rewrite vast swaths of history (and hopefully the DDSIC wiki along with it, but that is wishful thinking tongue.gif).

Nobody knows who is going to state except County winners that have been announced at this point. Our award ceremony may be Thursday, but we might not even find out if we make state til later.

I thought California teams found out relatively early. In past years, at the end of the LAUSD awards ceremony, they were able to immediately announce the state qualifiers even though not all regions had held their awards ceremonies yet. That is, the California state administration and the county coordinators shared scores among themselves early to determine quickly which schools would advance, well before everybody had finished their awards.

Is that not the case anymore?

Teams will be notified before the awards ceremonies, but they won't know score or how they placed until later. Monday is a holiday so they will have to probably wait just a little longer.
