Did Illinois have a State competition this year? If so, anyone know the results? Did their tests have the answers on the last page?

I don't know any scores, or whether the fine Illinois tradition of thoroughly botched state competitions was continued, but the Whitney Young school website indicates another state title.

EDIT:
This looks copied and pasted from last year's announcement, since the actual number is 26 state titles in the last 27 years, not 25/26.

usad usually publishes a (fairly unreliable) list of schools going to nationals and their scores at state. any idea when that might be headed our way?

(also, if anybody cares to explain the "answers on the last page" line, i'd be grateful).

At the 2009 or 2010 competition (I think 2009), the answer key was stapled to one of the tests (I think music) in the testing room. A couple minutes into the test, somebody noticed and pointed it out, and the keys were collected by the proctors.

They were suppose to have their state on march 23, the scores and winner should have been announced by now.

I called Whitney Young Magnet HS, left a message, and sent an e-mail to a teacher there. Waiting for a reply.

I heard(from a little birdie) that after round 1, Whitney Young was like 3rd in the nation, and they did just as well on Round 2. So I expect their score to be a top 3 score. 48-49k is my guess.

I hear that they won, with a score of 41578.

You sure? That seems uncharacteristically low of them. Now I'm disappoint.

Maybe the reported low score is why no one is getting back to me?

Or, more likely, they failed to get enough judges for one or more subjective events so those are missing from the score.

How could a competition not have enough judges? You have almost an entire year to recruit...worst case scenario why can't they go give homeless people a few bucks and a meal to come judge for them?

I don't know, but it's happened in Illinois before. Their competition is routinely one of the worst run in the country. Amazing for a top-5 state.

I've heard of competitions that ran short of judges and just started grabbing every hotel staff member they could find.

I believe that USAD runs the Illinois State competition.

Speaking of grabbing warm bodies to judge, USAD hired a temp agency for speech and interview at Nationals in Charlotte. The general consensus was that the judges did a very good job.

Still no response from Whitney Young.

The 41K score is correct. I emailed Brian Dennison (the WY coach) personally and have not heard back from him.

41k? Had to be a missing event. Possibly no interview scores?

There is a world of things that could have happened 0.o. Possibly a scantron attached to all the tests, a missing subjective, a screw up on the relay (although that would only deduct 2400 at max) or maybe even a disqualification of someone without having a back up.

Also, what happened to Massachusetts' scores - why did Acton-Boxborough Rg HS score 31K?

And, are those all of the teams that will be attending? Scores are missing from states that attended last year (Florida, Oregon, New Hampshire) - are those states no longer participating in USAD?
