Good luck to those going to San Antonio this weekend (Nimitz, Highland Park, Keller, Alice, Cinco Ranch, etc.). Let us know how things go.

Yes, please do let us know. I think I'm more excited for our meet tomorrow and Friday than I have been for any District competition since my first year as coach.

We are excited for Holmes as well. After this meet I have been able to predict our final place at State to within one or two places. Just weird how it works out. In the last 10 years we've won the medium division 7 or 8 times, but I think this year is gonna be the most competitive year. Alamo Heights had a great year last year, Champion won last year, Highland Park may have best team in many years is now in the mix for Holmes. We feel great about our objectives, we should be o.k. in Essay, anybody with clarity of thought can do a decent interview... so that leaves, hmmm, what am I forgetting ... speech unsure.gif Guess what our kids are starting on today?

We'll submit scores for objectives and subjectives separately for a breakdown. To those medium schools going... they provide scores to all coaches at the end of the meet. Be on notice... you will be posted! biggrin.gif

See you all in a few days.

Cinco Ranch is not going to SA Holmes this year. Shank told me they already know who their team is, so they are saving money for the state meet. Knowing Katy ISD, they might not send us to state this year.

Practice tonight until 9 since we get to sleep on the bus tomorrow. Holmes Invitational is here. For those of us in South Texas this is our big "benchmark" (ewww, can't believe I used that word sad.gif ) 40K is the determinant if your team is having a good year. The exams are written by the host team so you never know what you'll get, but Holmes is a team with an AcaDec pedigree as good as they come. They will put on a great meet. I don't know what 'moment' kicks in for Dallas and Houston areas that "oh, man, it's time to perform, region is almost here" ... but for us that means Holmes Invitational. 4 of 6 counters have speeches ready to go. The other two? rolleyes.gif haven't even heard what the topic will be. Happy to have Highland Park coming south... what about all those teams in Frisco.... one bus, four teams...no problem.

I had the fleeting thought that this wouldn't be all that bad an idea.

It seems that last weekend and this weekend are the benchmark for Houston area; every major team except maybe Cinco and Clements had their round 1 these last two weekends.

Good luck! I expect the trophy to be contended by Nimitz and Alice. Should be a good meet.

Haha I'll be honest the Frisco schools are all going to be down a little bit, in fact looking around Wakeland might be on top but not by much, all 4 are rebuilding to some extent lots of new faces.

Cinco Ranch was at Pearland with the rest of the Katy schools. I have no clue what Clements does, I never hear anything from them till Regionals. I invited them to our meet and they declined the invitation.

Yes, good luck to all competing at Holmes and Pasadena today.

I wouldn't have opened it if I had. Sanstonio not staying off the blunt caused him to be traded away from my beloved Steelers, and I'm still a little bitter about that. dry.gif

Objective to Subjective breakdown for top five teams

Nimitz (large). 26,091. 16,160
Alice (med). 25,191. 15,680
King (large). 24,531. 15,520
Highland Park (med). 24,404. 15,855
Champion (med) 24,262. 15,230
Alamo Heights. 22,121. 16,218

In Alice we can assure these subjectives were nice nice because we have spent absolutely zero time on them. I don't k ow the speeches and haven't heard a single one (we start that this week). Math was as hard as DD copper. SQ wAs extremely detailed. Lit had unbalanced number of biographical questions on Steinbeck (over 10).

Holmes was definitely an interesting meet, as Mr. Eberhard said, very awkward objectives, multiple absurdly easy questions, and then a few questions that were very oddly worded/vague/ or just plain randomly difficult. Subjectives were incredibly nice as well (considering our number 2 scholastic showed up in a band uniform and delivered a speech he made up 20 minutes prior and still broke 900)

Congratz to Alice they performed really well, learned we have quite a bit of room to improve and get better and hopefully give Alice a solid run for its money for E-Nats this year

to give an idea for individual (with subjectives) for medium schools the top score was a 75XX I believe in honors, a 75XX in scholastics (shame i can't remember my own score) and i don't think any Varsities broke 7k. It didn't appear anyone broke 5k in objectives but i can't guarantee it (the guy who won honors may of gotten close).

oh by the way I'm from Boerne Champion (probably should of said that)
once again a fun interesting meet.

LOL I was sending from my iphone and it must have 'corrected' it for me. Wunche is the name of the school, or perhaps it's just a tired coach planning ahead.

Nimitz Honors did amazing. They outscored us by 1,685 on Team score, 1,627 in Honors division (600 in Math, 320 in Econ, 465 Subjectives). Our goal has been to get solid in Music, Lit, Art, SocSci, and SQ then shift to the others. I think we can increase in Econ and 'comparable subjectives' will be good with this team... now the math? Team math score (6 scorers) 1,771.4 (yes I'm including the .4 cuz we need every tenth we can get). King's two Honors beat all six of our scorers huh.gif

We have a great Math teacher willing to help but doesn't really understand the diff between classroom math and competition math. Any suggestions for a list of things to work on that we can do tons of reps on. We aren't trying to reinvent anything, just would like to get to at least a 450 average by region.
